In this role you will be working within a global technology function that provides IT services to a global based finance function.
The Technology function includes development and support of business applications that underpin revenue, operational, compliance, finance, legal, and marketing with customer service functions.
The broader organisation incorporates Infrastructure services that the firm relies on to operate on a day to day basis including data centre, networks, proximity services, security, voice, incident management and remediation.
In this role you will be managing an enterprise UNIX team that is responsible for approximately 4000 OS instances within Fidelity and its subsidiaries.
The estate is predominantly Red Hat Linux (Strategic offering), AIX and some Legacy Solaris instances.
The team are responsible for architectural design decisions, solving technical problems and making improvements to our systems.
You will be working closely with the DevOps team and environment.
You will be working closely with software developers and other infrastructure teams to ensure engineering across all infrastructures is truly global and all aspects of integration are taken into account.
Installations, configurations, updates and troubleshooting services such as Apache, MySQL, Puppet/Chef, Jenkins and many others and provide support through innovative solutions that create sustainable and maintainable environments.
You will have the freedom to automate anything and everything making efficiency the key to driving future success across the Unix estate.
Purpose of your role
As UNIX Technical Manager you will be primarily responsible for providing line management of the local UNIX and Middleware team while working closely with the UNIX and Middleware global team leads.
This role requires a broad range of technical knowledge specialising preferably in RHEL but including, either AIX or Solaris.
The right person will come from a senior Linux engineering background, thrive in dynamic environments and won't feel satisfied unless you are challenged with new problems on a daily basis.
You will work on building the infrastructure, keeping products stable, and maintaining applications and services within a well-defined strategy and roadmap, which is integrated with other key technologies.
*Linux systems engineering support capacity
*Very strong system administration skills in RHEL and either Solaris or AIX
*Knowledge of ESX virtual technologies for Linux hosting
*Experience of working in a DevOps enterprise environment
*Hands on Linux, RedHat and UNIX skills
*Experience of Puppet or Chef or Ansible automation, including configuration, set up, ongoing support and driving future strategy
*Management over 1000 server heterogeneous estates using tools such as Puppet or Chef
*Strong Scripting abilities, including Shell, Perl, PHP, Ruby and YAML
*Creation or maintenance of build Servers
*Veritas experience covering Volume Manager and Cluster Server Ability to build and configure
*Working knowledge of Netbackup, HP Openview, Control-M and Autosys
*Working knowledge of SAN storage and host-based configuration
*Virtualization and strong networking knowledge
