About the Role

Ex Ordo are seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to own the technical direction of a new team who will develop and operate Ex Ordo’s products and tools. Ex Ordo is at the beginning of a growth phase. We’re six months into a multi-year plan to transform the engineering department. This is a unique opportunity to join the team in a role with major impact and visibility, and further scope for career progression and growth.

This is a high profile role. You will work closely with product, marketing, customer success, technical support, and other engineering teams. Being at the forefront of this cross-team collaboration means no two days are the same and you can develop your skill set across many tools and technologies.

Ex Ordo has been in business since 2012, and we have gotten this far with a small, tight-knit team of engineers, designers and product managers. The pandemic forced a major acceleration in technology adoption amongst our customer base, and we pivoted our offering to meet this demand. Since then, as the waves of the pandemic have come and gone, we have been quietly adjusting our business to align with this new world.

Now it’s the time to accelerate that vision. We believe that the scholarly industries’ adoption of virtual event technology and experiences is only going to continue over the coming years. We aim to be at the forefront of that transformation by working closely with our customers to build and scale a best-in-class virtual events product. This starts by adding significantly more in-house engineering and product resources. The engineering team will triple in the next 12 months and will continue to grow to 30+ engineers in the years beyond that.

The successful candidate will be the most senior member of our operations, applications, and technical support team. This team is responsible for a wide area of responsibilities within the engineering department, including the development and maintenance of our website, internal support applications, and infrastructure. The team will also own the delivery of the following key objectives over the coming quarters; the continued evolution of our CI/CD process across all applications within Engineering, the creation of a formalised process for costed customer scripts in conjunction with the Customer Success team, and the planning, validation, and development of the next generation of our cloud production infrastructure. The successful candidate will be involved in every aspect of what it takes to build, deploy, and provide exceptional software. They will have deep technical skills and a strong customer focus. They will provide support, instruction, and training to junior members on their team, and across the engineering department. Wherever their expertise lies, there is a significant opportunity to learn new skills and technologies. The candidate will report to the Engineering Manager.

About You

You are in a high-performing, mid-level or senior engineer position and have 5+ years experience in software development. You have experience developing and troubleshooting in front end and back end technologies.

You should enjoy collaborating with others and balancing the priorities of multiple internal stakeholders. As the senior member of your team, you will need a strong sense of teamwork and be comfortable leading and coaching others. You will need to represent your team when communicating with leadership, drawing on metrics to make decisions and create long-term plans.

You are experienced with the full spectrum of activities involved with building, scaling and maintaining software products, including collaborating with product teams, coding, tuning and operational ownership.

You have expertise in either frontend, backend, or dev-ops, and experience across all three. You have a desire to learn more about all aspects of software development and delivery.

Curiosity and the ability to work under your own initiative are important to us, we’d like you to be driven to identify technical opportunities, conduct research and steer initiatives through to a conclusion.

About Us

As a business, Ex Ordo exists to help scholarly and professional societies engage with the communities they serve by providing the tools and services they need to deliver a delightful and seamless events experience, both in-person and online.

To date, over half a million researchers have used our product to attend in-person and virtual conferences in 58 countries on every topic you can imagine. Our customers include the likes of the Royal Geographical Society, the American Marketing Association, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

As a team, we're a tight-knit, welcoming and multi-cultural bunch who delight in supporting each other to do great work. Pre-pandemic, we had a strong in-person culture based in our office in the heart of Galway City. The pandemic changed the way we work but not who we are. We have repositioned our company, culture and processes to function in a remote context. And today, we are committed to being a remote-first company, with the option to work in our offices in Galway if that’s your preference. We still value the energy and connection from in-person meetups, so twice a year we bring all staff together to the same location to work together for the week.

Whether we’re in the office in Galway, or working remotely in Cork, Cambridge or Croatia, our values are still the same. We believe in supporting each other to do smart, significant, and sustainable work.
