Planet is seeking a Global Data Protection Officer (DPO). The DPO will have overall responsibility for Planet's global data management and privacy programme. The DPO will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive privacy strategy and will be based in Galway, Ireland. The DPO will report directly to Planet's Chief Legal & Risk Officer.

What you will do

Promote data protection awareness throughout the organisation by providing training to business functions and colleagues.
*
Provide information and guidance to business functions on the collection and processing of personal data.
*
Process, coordinate and respond to all data protection and privacy-related queries and requests from third parties (such as users, accounts, data subject and regulatory authorities, including the Data Protection Commission in Ireland).
*
Assist in maintaining data inventories and data flow maps and update as necessary.
*
Undertake systematic data protection compliance audits in accordance with GDPR articles and other global privacy mandates.
*
Lead negotiations on data protection and privacy-related agreements with key third-party stakeholders.
*
Interpret and provide guidance to colleagues on forthcoming changes to data protection legislation on GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, and other global mandates.
*
Support the creation of local or functional specific data protection policies or standards.
*
Apply knowledge of privacy requirements and leading practices to assist product teams in addressing privacy risks by applying privacy by design principles.

Plan and conduct privacy due diligence on possible acquisitions.
Who you are
*
At least 6 years' working experience in data privacy, data protection, or IT governance or compliance with a global organisation.
*
A Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
*
CIPP or similar data protection or IT auditor qualifications (highly desirable).
*
Knowledge of data protection laws and privacy practices with expert knowledge of European data protection laws and practices, specifically GDPR.
*
An understanding of data protection and data governance capabilities, such as data classification, data discovery, masking, encryption and anomaly detection.
*
Experience in and understanding of payments, gateway, e-money or wallet products and services, banking functions, and/or merchant processing is preferred.
*
The ability to assess current and planned applications, systems and business processes, and identify privacy issues and design solutions for existing gaps to ensure privacy principles, policies, practices and customer/employee expectations are met.

Experience with process design, implementation and improvement.
*
Knowledge of IT systems, processes, and information security practices.
*
The ability to "translate" legal requirements into organisational policies and procedures.
*
The ability to communicate with internal stakeholders, third party vendors and customers, and data protection authorities.

Strong analytical thinking with the ability to impact and influence.
*
The ability to organise and prioritise workloads while acting on own initiative.
