Senior Wintel DBA
A new an exciting opportunity has arisen onsite at one of our prestigious financial services customers in Shannon, Ireland. The successful candidate will be fully responsible for the Wintel day-to-day Database (DB) administration, support and monitoring duties including resolution of Database problems, production of DB performance statistics, provision of installation, commissioning, pre and post implementation performance tuning.
Responsibilities:
• Sets standards for database administration, ensuring that procedures exist for all routine database administration activities.
• Manages database configuration(s) ensuring that all standards are observed and procedures are carried out in a timely manner.
• Monitors trends in database activity and, working with senior colleagues, agrees policies for future database development. Initiates regular exercises to optimise database performance.
• Ensures that recovery plans are tested regularly. Initiates recovery procedures when necessary.
• Manages database resources, including allocation of system storage. Working with the capacity management function, plans for future storage requirements, and prepares cases for additional resources.
• Ensures that database problems are investigated, diagnosed and resolved.
• Ensures that procedures and scripts for all aspects of database administration are established and maintained.
Skills Required:
• Strong knowledge level of Microsoft Windows Operating systems, Active Directory and associated tools
• Strong Knowledge of Enterprise backup solution (Symantec Net-backup preferred)
• Thorough understanding of server hardware and peripherals, including mirrored drives and RAID arrays. SAN administration an advantage.
• Able to demonstrate superior creative, innovative and problem solving skills
• Able to interpret data, draw conclusions and make recommendations
• Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
• Demonstrate a concern for process, maintenance of team records and procedures.
• Ability to deal professionally with suppliers and customers at all times.
• Bachelors Degree or equivalent in a technical discipline
