My client is seeking a Technical Director to provide technical leadership their Solutions Delivery function. This individual will fulfil a senior position within the Delivery organisation with line management responsibilities for the Development and QA delivery teams (“Delivery Team”). The Technical Director will provide the technical leadership across global delivery, driving projects to a timely delivery with strong quality levels and an innovative, customer focused agenda. The Technical Directors key objective for this role will be to motivate and grow a team of Developers and QA professionals to deliver to this level.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Delivery Team, working with teams based in Ireland, Europe and North America to deliver against a well defined statements of work and associated visual and technical designs.
  • Line manage a senior technical members of the Delivery team, providing technical direction and assistance, mentoring and managing objectives and regular performance reviews
  • Define and rollout a standard Development methodology which drives a common way of working for our development teams, adopting the elements of agile where appropriate.
  • Supporting Projects and Programs directly, engaging with client to support new project contracting, project kick-off or other key project events where senior Delivery representation is key to a successful outcome. Building relationships with relevant stakeholders within our customer base to ensure successful contracting, project delivery and customer satisfaction as outcomes.
  • Work with the PMO function to devise a standard methodology around estimation, delivery and standard project timelines, both for new project and as an ongoing process during the project lifecycle.

Personal Attributes and Experience required

  • Possessing at least 10-15 years of software development experience including at least 5 years experience in a development manager role and extensive Development or QA team lead experience.
  • Excellent communication skills both outward facing (to our customers) and inward facing (to senior management and to the delivery teams in Dublin, Rest of Europe (Spain, France, Poland) and US). Strong ability to present information, materials and tailor communication according to target audience.
  • Strong advocator of change, ability to drive change through awareness, education and reporting.
  • Capable of understanding and communicating the “big picture”.
  • Driven, pragmatic and completely focused on project delivery for business benefit.
  • Strong listening, analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills, with close attention to detail.
  • A strong understanding of best practises in software development, encompassing architecture, design patterns, coding standards and QA.
  • A strong technical background is essential – ideally gained in software development for major scale enterprise customer deployments. The following technologies are advantageous:-

Web Technologies: HTML5, REST, AngularJS/Javascript, Spring Frameworks, OAuth, JQuery, Responsive applications.

Database/Storage Tier – Technologies: JPA/Hibernate, MySQL/Oracle, OLAP cubes, Amazon AWS Services, Lucene/SOLR.

Integration Tier – Technologies: ESB, Spring Integration, Message Oriented Middleware, EAI, ETL, XML, Analytics/Map Reduce, Micro-Services.

Development Technologies: Maven, Jenkins, Continuous Integration.

  • Experience of both waterfall and iterative/agile development methodologies.
  • The candidate should have an honours primary degree in a Computing or a related discipline with a strong technical focus.
