System Release Engineer

Vacancy Overview

System Release Engineer position will have responsibility for the management of the release of systems and process for the deployment of code and configuration changes across multiple environments throughout the organisation .

Overview of the responsibilities of the Software Engineer:

Manage the release systems and process for the deployment of code and configuration changes across multiple environments.
Zero production outages resulting from errors in release management processes or deliverables.
Administration of the CVS environment, including the set up and configure repositories and users including client side tools.
Drive a structured approach to accept, store, approve and release changes to candidate environments.
Design and implement CVS structures based on understanding the IT programme/project requirements.
Training of users and teams in relation to Release Management processes and tools.
Liaise with Support, Configuration, Developer and Database Administration teams in management and coordination of releases to system environments.
Drive continuous improvement in the Release Management process through process improvements & automation.
Manage the release systems and process for the deployment of code and configuration changes across multiple environments.

Candidate Profile

Background

B.Sc/B.Eng or greater in Computing
3+ years experience of application development, preferably Oracle based.
Good understanding of release binaries and compilers (Oracle Forms)
Experienced in release management technologies (CVS)

Technical Knowledge

Install and configure CVS Clients (Tortoise CVS)
Thorough understanding of branching and tagging and CVS commands
Installation and configure web interfaces to CVS (CVSweb)
Scripting knowledge in PERL and Python
Strong knowledge of Linux tools including GREP, SED and AWK.
Working knowledge of Linux environment & bash shell scripting especially incorporating CVS commands, SQL and PL/SQL
Strong knowledge of software development lifecycles, focusing especially on release management best practices.
