Responsibilities
- Assists in the implementation of enterprise software to meet stated business and technical goals:
- Works as part of the technical team that designs, develops, implements and maintains AOL Media Technology systems
- Works closely with designers and other development teams to ensure successful implementation and integration of dashboards and interactive web applications
- Converts specifications and requirements into functional web pages and works with the back-end developers to create database-driven templates for functional web pages
- Understands and adheres to industry and AOL best practices for delivering fast-loading and responsive web sites
- Actively participates in an Agile development environment
- Breaks projects down into tasks with accurate time estimation
- Proactively identifies and communicates issues in a timely manner
- Works in a team environment with other developers, designers, product managers and business analysts
- Performs various activities to advance the capabilities of the engineering team:
- Stays abreast of emerging technologies and trends, particularly as they apply to the online publishing industry, the internet and rapid software development
- Actively contributes with idea sharing and brainstorming sessions so as to contribute creatively, not just through execution
- Effectively manages multiple priorities
Skills
- Experience in front-end Java web development using templating systems (JSP, JSTL, Servlets a plus), HTML, XHTML, CSS, AJAX, XML, JavaScript, jQuery
- An understanding of how design affects web sites and comprehensive knowledge of developing interactive web pages
- Knowledge of cross-browser/cross-platform compatibility
- Experience with optimisation and performance tuning following industry-standard techniques (e.g. use of Sprites and jQuery libraries)
- Well versed in behavior related to the use of different DOCTYPE declarations, character encoding, W3C standards compliance, accessibility issues and SEO techniques
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues across browsers (e.g. JavaScript, jQuery, CSS and HTML)
- Demonstrated understanding of back-end services and environments for developing web pages (Unix, Apache, Tomcat, FTP and server architecture)
- Experience developing in a standards-based environment using version control software (SVN or CVS and IDEs such as Eclipse or NetBeans)
- Experience with the following a plus: CSS3, HTML5, Photoshop, Flash
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and learn quickly in a dynamic environment
- History of creativity, innovative thought, awareness of current technical trends and high levels of motivation
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to understand and express complex topics
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Education / Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, AND
- 2-4 years of experience in software development, OR
- Relevant combination of education and experience.
