Software Development Manager – Donegal

Our Client is on the lookout for a Software Development Manager to join their team in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. This position requires an Information Systems professional to be part of a core team responsible for developing and managing a diverse group of software development projects (from mainframe to client server to distributed architectures). There is an excellent salary and competitive benefits on offer with this role.
Whilst the successful candidate would be expected to have a strong development background, the focus of the role is on management / leadership ability. Therefore the candidate should have a minimum of 5 years experience operating at a management level in a large (preferably multi-national) organization.

Some of the responsibilities in this role include:

• Managing a large team of Software engineers (approx 50 )
• Strong customer focus and consultancy skills
• Meeting all financial objectives around revenue/expense management and minimize bench time.
• Motivating and developing individuals and project teams.
• Hiring and retention of quality individuals.
• Staffing and resource planning for all work activities
• Chairing regular and effective meetings within the team and across teams
• Developing a strong vision and charter for the team within the scope of the company direction
• Championing and developing productivity and efficiency improvements
• Effective and regular interfacing with other groups in the organization
• Full command of all the deliverables and ensure timeliness and high quality for each deliverable.
• Ensure sufficient training and development activities are planned and implemented.
• Conflict resolution and efficient/ timely decision making
• Keep up to date in the changing software environment.
• Provide regular feedback and coaching to all reports
• Help shape the overall direction of the development department and participate in senior management discussions on future strategy.
• Contributing to overall development of work environment through:
o Process definition and improvement
o Input to organisational policies and procedures

Qualifications –
§ Should be educated to degree level, preferably in a Computer, Engineering or Business related discipline or have at least 5 years relevant experience in IT Management.

Specific experience

§ 10-15 years’ experience, at least 6 of which should have been gained in a senior technical managerial capacity using software development methodologies and processes.
§ A strong appreciation of the business applications of technology.
§ Experience and record of delivery at this level of operation is required.
§ Strong business acumen, financial acumen and project management skills.
§ Insurance or Financial services experience would be a distinct advantage.

Personal skills
§ Experienced manager with a proven track record operating at a senior level – management, influencing, planning and resourcing.
§ Strong customer focus, aligning their objectives to flexible delivery model.
§ Strong quality, process, procedure, customer service, leadership, communication and project management skills, with a high focus on results.
§ Self-motivated with an ability to work in teams, meet tight deadlines and possess enthusiasm, customer focus and a willingness to learn new disciplines.
§ The ability to lead and motivate a team of specialists.
