Software Configuration Manager and Build Engineer

Snap-on Diagnostics is seeking to hire an outstanding Software Configuration Manager and Build Engineer to assist Snap-on’s I/T Sales and Marketing Team maintain and release quality software. As part of the I/T Sales and Marketing team the successful candidate will be a key driver of Snap-on’s next generation source control and automated build environment. Candidates must possess a keen interest in software development best practice with a strong background in development processes or QA.

This position requires an excellent team player with exceptional communication skills who clearly demonstrates a passion for delivering software of uncompromising quality to customers. The candidate will frequently be required to work on a cross-functional level with other Snap-on facilities, software and I/T professionals in San Jose, CA and Kenosha, WI.

Essential Skills Required:

•Strong experience working with source control systems such as CVS, Subversion or StarTeam
•Experience establishing and maintaining highly effective continuous integration environments such as CruiseControl.NET or TeamCity
•Experience with the .NET framework
•Experience branching and merging code
•Degree or equivalent experience in Software Development or Quality Assurance
•3-5 years experience
•Self-motivated, results oriented with the ability to deliver the highest-quality software using industry best-practice methodologies
•Details-driven personality with a strong desire to develop and document processes and tools
•Team-oriented attitude

The following skills are not essential, but desirable:

•Track-record of using key Agile or Scrum Methodologies to develop quality software
•Knowledge of a broad-range of software development environments
•Experience defining and driving process adoption
•Strong knowledge of Software Configuration Management (SCM)
•Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) knowledge is desirable
•Proficient with Microsoft Visual Studio and MSbuild,
•Experience with Windows 2003 Server, or 2008 Server

Successful Candidates Roles and Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

•Automation of continuous integration builds using .NET Framework.
•Automate/Refine build and configuration changes into development and integration environments.
•Branch and merge code. Working with developers to correct any conflicts in the merging process
•Lead efforts to incorporate code review and sign off processes for audit purposes
•Collaborate with Development and QA to create and deploy builds
•Identify new tools, technologies, processes to improve reliability, repeatability, efficiency of builds and releases
• Work closely with development teams and management teams to develop effective CM strategies for new and existing products
•Provide current and accurate progress reports on CM tasks
•Implement CM process improvements, standards, best practices and technical tools
•Ensure proper archiving of releases
•Lead next generation of Source Control system
•Be Subject Matter Expert on the features and functions of CM tools
•Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems with the build process
•Apply Application Lifecycle Methodologies and processes for Agile Development
•Analyze and recommend corrective action and/or resolve build failures
•Any other reasonable duties as required by the manager

The Snap-on Diagnostics Cork facility is one of several Snap-on global software development sites and employs over 60 software development professionals. The I/T Sales & Marketing Team consists of two key members within the Cork facility operating within a wider team consisting of approximately thirty associates spread between San Jose, CA and Kenosha, WI. The team assists the business to deliver product by providing software, websites and technology to assist in their everyday transactions.
