Senior RPG Programmer

Senior RPG Developer with 5+yrs experience in a project delivery / application support environment & strong RPG development experience required for permanent role. This role can be based in Cavan or Dublin.

Job Summary: Take a lead role in an Application Development delivery team, with responsibility for the development, implementation and support of new and existing software.

Key Tasks:
•Analysis, design & development of application systems with a focus on quality delivery to agreed timescales.
•Provide support in the system development life cycle, from requirements gathering through to testing and post implementation.
•Responsibility for the delivery of the technical handover from the Development team to the Application Support team.
•Ensure that company standards and procedures are adhered to.
•Contribute to the on-going development of IT standards.
•Liaise with third party suppliers & other internal departments on system requirements/issues, with regards to the delivery and support of IT systems.
•Keep up to date on new & changing technologies.
•Assist in the development and training of less experienced staff.
•Develop an active & innovative role in the department.

Personal Specification:

Essential:
•Third level degree or equivalent.
•Minimum 5 years experience in a project delivery and/or application support environment.
•Excellent track record in delivery of systems projects for (preferably) a financial services industry.
•Expert in RPG, RPG/ILE, CL, SQL, combined with deep knowledge of the iSeries platform.
•Ability to work independently & to tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
•Proven ability to mentor less experienced staff and implement best practice and procedure.
•Excellent written & oral communication skills and confidence in dealing with various levels within an organisation – users, managers, suppliers.
•Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
•Strong emphasis on delivering quality at all stages of the system development lifecycle.

Desirable:

Java development experience would be a distinct advantage.

J2EE development experience would be a distinct advantage, as would knowledge of Websphere or SOA architectures.
