Main duties & responsibilities:

DBA Tasks:

Maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act
Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
Controlling access permissions and privileges
Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans
Ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly
Capacity planning
High availability of all database environments
Refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model
Further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements
Installing and testing new versions of the database management system (DBMS)
Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database in outline
Considering both back-end organization of data and front-end accessibility for end-users
Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security
Replication and high availability
Interface with Informix / IBM for technical support
Patch Management and Version Control
Automation of tasks

Support:
Application tuning and performance monitoring
Commissioning and installing new applications, servers and customizing existing applications and servers in order to make them fit for purpose
Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and securit
Working closely with IT project managers, database programmers and web developer

Skills

At least 5 experience with Informix 9 / 10 / 11.50
Experience with Informix Replication techniques, which will include, but not limited to ,HDR, ER, RSS, SDS
Informix backups – restores
Excellent SQL / SP skills
Experience with Perl / shell scripting
Unix experience IBM AIX / Sun Solaris or other Unix variants.
