Responsibilities:
This position requires an Information Systems professional responsible for developing and managing a diverse group of software development projects (from mainframe to client server to distributed architectures). Whilst the successful candidate would be expected to have a strong development background, the focus of the role is on management / leadership ability. Therefore the candidate should have a minimum of 5 years experience operating at a management level in a large (preferably multi-national) organization.
The development manager has overall responsibility for the deliverables of the department, as well as the individual members of the each team within the department. This includes the overall responsibility to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality development projects.
• Managing a large team of Software engineers (approx 50 )
• Strong customer focus and consultancy skills
• Meeting all financial objectives around revenue/expense management and minimize bench time.
• Motivating and developing individuals and project teams.
• Hiring and retention of quality individuals.
• Staffing and resource planning for all work activities
• Chairing regular and effective meetings within the team and across teams
• Developing a strong vision and charter for the team within the scope of the company direction
• Ensure sufficient training and development activities are planned and implemented.
• Conflict resolution and efficient/ timely decision making
• Keep up to date in the changing software environment.
• Help shape the overall direction of the development department and participate in senior management discussions on future strategy.

o Process definition and improvement
o Input to organisational policies and procedures
