Our client provides integrated library management systems for public and academic libraries. With many years of experience in library consulting, they provide extensive data services, unrivalled expertise in systems implementation and network services. An opportunity has now arisen for a Linux Support Developer / Technical Support to join their team.

This is the ideal role for an ‘open source professional’ with experience of Perl, PHP, Linux CSS and JavaScript development and an excellent knowledge of SQL, looking to further their career within a innovative and successful company.

As a Linux Support Developer / Technical Support you will be responsible for developing and supporting a variety of open source web applications related to library management systems.

In this key role, your focus will be on supporting existing systems. You will also be tasked with developing new modules and features for applications, and staying up to date with the latest developments in open source technology. With your excellent knowledge of the open source culture, you will use social media, forums and blogs to take an active role in the community and promote the company.

To be considered for the role of Linux Support Developer / Technical Support, you must have:

– Proven experience in open source development, using Perl, PHP, CSS and JavaScript
– Good experience of Linux
– Excellent knowledge of SQL (preferably MySQL and/or PostgreSQL)
– A third level qualification (such as a degree, or equivalent)

Additionally, you must be an innovative self starter with solid documentation and analytical skills. You should also have a creative approach and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Although not essential, experience of using XML, XHTML, Java, Python or C programming languages would be beneficial to your application. Any familiarity with public or academic library operations would also be advantageous.
