LEARNING TECHNOLOGIST – OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING

Applications are invited for the above fixed term, wholetime post in the Office of the Vice President for Teaching and Learning for a 3 year period.

The University, at its discretion, may undertake to make a second appointment from this competition following the conclusion of the process.

The Office of the Vice President for Teaching and Learning (OVPTL) incorporates Ionad Bairre, UCC’s Teaching & Learning Centre; the Centre for Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) and the National Academy for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (NAIRTL).

The OVPTL reports to the Registrar’s Office, and works closely with other student-focussed central units such as Student Services and Information Services as well as the University’s constituent Colleges and their various Schools and Departments.

The work of the OVPTL centres on the provision of professional development opportunities for UCC staff with the ultimate aim of enhancing the University’s students’ experience of learning while at UCC and beyond.

[b][red]The principal function of the successful post-holder will be to work as a Learning Technologist within a small team tasked with the development of a suite of online programmes within a defined-time period. However, the successful candidate is expected to work flexibly and with a range of colleagues across the University. [/b][/red]

Candidates will also be expected to:

• Be qualified to degree level in a Learning Technology or IT/Computing related subject and/or possess substantial literacy and relevant experience in IT and educational design.

• [b][red][Have significant experience in educational technologies, preferably in the higher education context together with a sound understanding of teaching and learning theories and styles [/b][/red]

• Possess expertise in virtual learning environments (VLEs), preferably, Blackboard

• Have excellent verbal and written communication skills, being capable of effectively collaborating with a range of individuals and groups

• Be capable of handling multiple and simultaneous tasks, and responding flexibly as needs arise

Salary within the scale: €39,853 – €49,345 (Grade 5)
