Eden Recruitment is working closely with a Software Development Centre based in Galway, Ireland which is looking to recruit a Lead Database Administrator to join their core team.

The Lead Database Administrator will be a key player within the design, implementation and maintenance of database solutions within a multi-database client server environment with responsibility for supporting product development teams in a fast passed and ever changing Agile Production environment.

[b]Core Duties and Responsibilities: [/b]

The Lead Database Administrator will provide technical database design support to the Galway development community.

• Designing operational and transactional database solutions that meet the functional and non functional business requirements.
• Performing application database administration functions including database performance tuning, database application design, physical data modeling, and environment support.
• Work closely with development teams in database design process and make suggestions/recommendations based on the application data usage requirements.
• Provide support to multiple Agile development teams.
• Work with senior level business and technology partners to define and implement database solutions.
• Provide 7*24 second level application database production support.
• Interface with Technology Operations and infrastructure groups to plan and manage changes in the production environment.
• Review business data requirements, database designs and database access code.
• Ability to analyze complex database problems and implement solutions and/or workarounds.
• Project coordination and planning.
• Evaluation and recommendation of software products in database management arena.

[b]Skills and Experience Requirements:[/b]

[b]Education [/b]

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

[b]Experience, Skills and Knowledge [/b]

• 8+ years Database Administration / DB development experience with Oracle (Some exposure to all Sybase or MS SQL Server is highly desired).
• Suitable applicants will (ideally) have strong experience with database replication and ETL tools.
• At least 2 years experience in UNIX and working knowledge of UNIX scripting languages (e.g. PERL, shell programming).
• Physical database design.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience in the Investment Industry would be a plus.
• Project management skills required.

[b]IMPORTANT:[/b] As the job holder will become part of an International Development and Test Team (working within a remote team structure), it is important to note that the QA Lead will be required to undertake regular travel to the USA (sometimes up to 25% of the time).
