The role includes:
Combined responsibilities of a manager and technical leader, including the following: collaborating with existing team members around the world; Â hiring local members of a team, if necessary; Â understanding and helping to refine requirements for new products and/or maintenance of existing products, including functional and non-functional requirements, designing and reviewing logical and physical data models, specifying scalability, availability, and data integration strategies (such as RAC, Replication, Stand-by, Streams), as well as capacity planning; designing and/or maintaining database-tier portions of payments-related software applications; guiding those who are implementing the solution; ensuring a solution which is highly flexible functionaly, highly performant, and highly scalable. Â Product solutions typically embody database support for high-volume, high-performance transaction-processing, business logic, and user interface components. Â Some products are Oracle-only (UNIX), and some involved DB2 (mainframe /z or LUW), and SQL Server is the least frequently utilized database. Â Development-oriented DBA work may be required.
Required competencies:
Ideally, a single candidate would have strong SQL, Extended SQL (e.g. PL/SQL), Performance Engineering, Data Modeling, light DBA, and Management Skills.  Data Modeling is the least important skill, the rest are very important but may not all be satisfied by 1 individual. Â
Educated to degree level, the candidate will have 8 – 15 yrs IT experience overall with 6 – 12 yrs specialist enterprise scale database expertise. They should have core expertise as a Developer and/or DBA and/or Architect on Oracle OR SQL Server OR DB2, with experience in database architecture and design, development and deployment. Â Experience of Database Performance tuning and SQL tuning, Data Modelling tools, and OLTP experience is required
