DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR

Role:
Responsible for the design, build and operational support of the company’s SQL and Oracle databases
Ensure database systems are compliant with relevant global standards and security requirements
Provide technical expertise for implementation, upgrade and development projects
Supervise team member ensuring adherence to relevant standards and processes

Specific areas of responsibility:
Provide technical leadership for DBA function including identification and nomination of initiatives to enhance the database environment.
Support and maintain the firm’s SQL and Oracle databases including installation, patching, daily checks, backups and restores.
Ensure compliance with Global technology and security standards.
Ensure relevant KPIs for security, performance, availability etc. are met.
Ensure database versions remain current and are upgraded as required.
Troubleshoot performance and functionality issues arising.
Responsible for change, configuration and vulnerability management
Responsible for documenting and enhancing design and operational processes and procedures
Upgrade existing systems and deploy new applications
Act as escalation point for incident management and operational issues.
Provide DBA expertise for DR, contingency and resilience initiatives
Design and build database schema and interfaces
Create technical specifications, test plans and other relevant documentation for in-house developed systems
Responsible for day to day management, coaching and development of team member including performance appraisal tasks.
Take a lead role in ensuring the operational efficiency and project delivery of the DBA team
Assign work and review deliverables.

Education / Professional Qualifications:
Candidates should have a third level qualification in an IT related discipline or alternatively, a general primary degree followed by a post graduate IT qualification
Formal SQL and/or Oracle accreditation’s highly desirable.

Experience/ Skills required:
5 years IT experience
Minimum 3 years SQL DBA experience – SQL 2000, 2005 and 2008
Minimum 1 year Oracle DBA experience – 9i, 10g and 11g
Minimum 1 year working as senior / lead DBA with supervisory responsibilities
Net development experience highly desirable though not essential
Knowledge and experience of standards implementation, industry best practice and vulnerability management
Experience of working to committed deadlines and budgets
Experience of working with technical and non-technical resources
Experience of implementing and supporting third party applications
Experience of working with end users and managing their expectations
Experience of working on projects as a technical / team lead
Experience of developing processes and procedures, change management and configuration management
