Data Warehouse Senior Analyst

Management Information Systems (MIS) and Data Warehouse (DWH) Senior Analyst/Technician

 

Primary objective of the job:

Management of the Management Information Systems (MIS) and Data Warehouse (DWH) database environments.

 

Number of persons managed/supervised and their positions:

Two to four persons.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Design and configuration management authority for the DWH and MIS reporting environments, including all development and test environments.
  2. Development and maintenance of Extract, Translation and Load (ETLs) configuration/programmes required to support the overall reporting environment. The performance, scalability and efficiency of these ETLs will also be a primary responsibility.

 

  1. Implementation and maintenance of job schedules for production reports as agreed and required by the business.

 

  1. Data quality, data cleansing, data normalization, including reconciliations, will be a key responsibility as well as investigating, understanding and resolving sources of inconsistencies with data flows.

 

  1. Continuous innovation of the DWH and MIS environments to evolve the delivery of reporting to near-time and where possible on a real time basis for business critical reports. This will involve regular evaluation of new and emerging technologies for data warehousing and business reporting to ensure the DWH and MIS operations at the company are aligned with industry best practice.

 

  1. Change control for the DWH and MIS environments including the ETL configurations – the role will be responsible for evaluating and signing off on all changes that will affect the operation of these environments.

    party suppliers of the technologies employed in the DWH and MIS environments for new developments and the delivery of maintenance and support services in accordance with service levels agreed with these suppliers.

 

  1. Develop and implement policies for the management of database access and security in accordance with industry best practices.
  2. Develop and implement policies for database housekeeping, data archiving, and database performance monitoring.

 

 

Academic qualifications and experience required for job:

  • University degree in Computer Science or related field (e.g. mathematical science).
  • Post graduate qualifications in data warehousing, data modelling or general management information systems reporting.
  • 5 – 7   experience years working in a data warehousing and business intelligence reporting environment and preferably in the financial or insurance industries. At least 2 years of senior team leader and/or middle management experience is also required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft SQL server, relationship database management systems, ETL development and implementation as well as data mining techniques and tools.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the IT systems development life cycle and data governance processes.
  • Good project management skills and ability to manage the delivery of several projects with DWH and MIS dependencies simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry is desirable.
