Our client is a leading international management consulting firm embarking on an effort to redefine, redesign, and replace its core systems and platforms. This project presents a unique opportunity to be a part of a greenfield system development effort.

The individual in this role will be involved in the entire system development life cycle, analysing and understanding the current database structure, designing the new database to support the system, uploading the data from the current database to the new structure and maintaining the structure going forward.

This position reports will be located in our client’s new Global Technology and Knowledge Centre in Dublin, Ireland.

Responsibilities

As part of the application development team, you will be expected to participate in the overall system architecture design, as well as the data model design. Your responsibilities may include:

* Provide technical expertise in the area of database architectures
* For requirements within your domain, estimate feasibility, costs, resources required, compatibility, and co-existence with existing applications
* Evaluation of third party products where required. These would be mainly in the area of data modelling tools.
* Design of new data model elements, including liasing with relevant development teams
* Design data migration and upload paths
* SQL DDL Generation & Maintenance – including the evolution and usage of tools to automation the generation of DDL files
* Day to day DB administration tasks
* Performance monitoring and tuning
* Design and implementation of scalability tests

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE :

* BSc or equivalent in Computer Science, in order to understand information technology and distributed processing architectures and characteristics
* Database systems – DBA Certification
* Data Modelling
* Data Synchronization
* Development and operations
* Object-oriented programming and distributed processing architectures
* 5 years experience in database design and implementation
* Experience working as part of a distributed team across international borders is a big plus
* Hands on experience with the following:
o Databases: DB2/UDB; MS SQL Server; Oracle;
o Database Connectivity: JDBC; ODBC; IBM-CLI; Oracle OCI;
o Data Modelling tools
o RDBMS performance monitoring and debugging
o Experience with large-scale, on-line databases
o Database Synchronization
* Strong execution skills with excellent attention to detail
* Proven ability to lead initiatives, demonstrating self-motivation
* Proven ability to meet deadlines and deliver results
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
