Applications Development and Support Manager

Our client, based just outside West Dublin have an excellent IT Job opportunity for an experienced Development and Support Manager. The company is a well-known Irish brand name.

The IT function sits within the Group Division and services all company business units. The successful candidate will create develop and manage the applications development and support group within the IT team and will report to the Head of IT. The successful candidate will also provide ongoing support for the Business Units’ key operating support systems.

The Role:

This role will include the following activities:

§ Grow an applications development and support function as a key pillar of the IT Department’s strategic direction.
§ Work with the business units to migrate existing supporting arrangements into the IT Department from 3rd party or others. All IT applications support to be eventually centralised within this team.
§ Create a target company applications architecture and migration roadmap taking into account existing plans for Financial Shared Services. This will be done in conjunction with other groups in IT and the wider business.
§ Develop relationships with and work with project teams to ensure smooth transition from development to production and to put processes in place to effect that transition in a standardised, repeatable manner.
§ Develop relationships and processes with the IT Service Delivery team and the IT Technology and Operations team to ensure ongoing support for key production systems.
§ Assume immediate responsibility for the Consumer and Professional business unit legacy systems support and develop an Applications architecture, including interim actions, for that business unit.
§ Create a new team of motivated, professional, competent, knowledgeable and empowered applications support specialists.
§ Lead and Performance Manage your direct report(s). Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team's objectives.
The Person:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills and knowledge:

A relevant third level qualification.
A minimum of 5 years experience in a senior IT development or IT applications support role.
A minimum of 3 years experience working in Management.
Knowledge of the ITIL Service Management approach is desirable.
Background in applications development is desirable.
Detailed knowledge of a recognised software development methodology is essential.
Previous experience of managing software development or applications support teams is an advantage.
Proficiency in the English language is a requirement.
