Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) is a commercial semi-state body whose mission is to develop and promote Ireland as a world centre of excellence for horse racing and breeding. Established under the Horse and Greyhound Racing Act 2001, it carries out the overall administration, direction and funding of horse racing from its headquarters on the Curragh in County Kildare.
Horse Racing Ireland Divisions/Subsidiaries
The Racecourse Division of HRI owns and operates Fairyhouse, Leopardstown, Navan and Tipperary Racecourses.
Tote Ireland Limited operates a totalisator at all Irish racecourses including an account betting service and a betting web site (www.thetote.com). Profits made by Tote Ireland are returned to racing.
Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Limited, a non-profit-making organisation, is responsible for the promotion of the Irish thoroughbred horse. It is funded by both HRI and the Irish bloodstock industry.
