Oracle Database Specialist

Curach Consulting is a leading Business and Technology consultancy. We work with a wide range of clients across various industry sectors to help deliver complex business and IT projects.

We are currently seeking to recruit an experienced Oracle Database Specialist for a contract role. This is a 12 month contract role that will commence in July / August.

The role will be based at our client’s premises in Portlaoise.

Role Descriptions and Skills Requirements

The successful candidates will be part of a team developing online and batch applications. Each contractor will work in a development environment and will be expected to carry out the following tasks / duties identified below.

Oracle Database Specialist Role Description

• Facilitating the achievement of goals established for the projects to which assigned,
• Assisting with database design and implementation,
• Troubleshooting and resolving database problems,
• Determination of any shortcomings of database system and recommending improvements,
• Development and maintenance of package code / stored procedures on an ongoing basis to support development teams across the organisation,
• Advising developers on best practice and optimal approach in the use of PL/SQL,
• Provision of support for data analysis and data-driven decision making,
• Completing assigned tasks related to phases of development lifecycle of enterprise applications within given scope and timeframe requirements,
• Developing customised reports,
• Mentoring and facilitating skills transfer to client staff,
• Any other tasks which are considered by the client to be appropriate to the role.

Essential Skills for Oracle Database Specialist:

• At least 3 years experience in Oracle database design & implementation of logical and physical data model,
• At least 3 years experience of using SQL & PL/SQL covering the following: –
o Dynamic SQL – literal & bind variables
o Ref Cursors
o Oracle Built-in Packages
o Application tuning
o Procedures, functions and triggers,
• At least 3 years experience in maintaining and building a large scale database in a development environment,
• At least 3 years Experience in Oracle query optimisation using cost based optimiser,
• At least 3 years Experience in Oracle Reports & Oracle Discover
• Experience of running and interpreting explain plans,
• Knowledge and understanding of context and composite indices,
• Excellent command of the English language, both spoken and written and experience in producing well-written and well-presented documentation in the English language.
• Proven track record in skills transfer / mentoring
• Experience of working effectively within a team and good communication skills,

Desirable Skills for Oracle Database Specialist:
• Schema management in a multi-development environment,
• Experience of source control using Microsoft VSS or Subversions,
• Understanding / experience in Java, J2EE,
• Experience in Oracle Designer,
• Knowledge of parallel DML,
• Experienced within the public sector is an advantage

This is a 12 month contract role with potential for extension. The role will be based at our client’s premises in Portlaoise.
