SAN ENGINEER

SAN ENGINEER – 6 MONTHS – CONTRACT

The role of the SAN Engineer is to design, install, and run SAN storage devices and SAN network devices. This will be predominantly storage devices with Cisco MDS and Brocade SAN switch devices. The SAN Engineer will preferably be industry certified. A key part of this role will be to work on client locations during the deployment and run of SAN services.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

* Gather and collate SAN requirements by working with clients and colleagues.
* Design secure and scalable SAN systems.
* Assist in capacity planning for SAN.
* Make structured configuration changes to current SAN installs.
* Assist in pricing for the SAN element of projects.
* Install secure and scalable SAN storage and SAN network devices.
* Work with OS, network and application teams to ensure client service success.
* Document all SAN set-ups.
* Follow both customer and standard ITIL processes eg. Change Management.
* Liaise with support teams, working together to resolve customer issues.
* Work as part of a team.
* Work with clients during all stages of projects.
* Highlight and document all SAN risks in projects.
* Coach more junior members of staff.

Behaviours and Skills/Experience

* SAN product experience needed – DS8000,DS6800, DS4000, DS5000
* SVC SAN experience
* 4 years SAN experience
* Degree/Diploma in IT /telecoms an advantage
* Detailed Design /Deployment experience required
* N-series /NetApp SAN skills a distinct advantage
* Cisco MDS SAN switch skills an advantage.
* Broacde SAN switch device skills an advantage
* HP SAN storage skills and experience an advantage
* Basic project management skills required
* Customer focus and ability to work alongside customer on customer site.
