IT Systems Engineer
Our client is an established multinational employer with a state of the art data centre based here in Limerick. They have retained the services of PBRecruitment to hire an IT Systems Engineer. This is a permanent position with an established and secure multinational, based in their state of the art data centre located in Limerick City.
As a Systems Engineer, you will be joining an existing internal VMware P2V ("Physical To Virtual") migration team, focusing on Windows and Linux environments, including working with business unit partners, application teams, as well as peer groups within the infrastructure technology support teams. You will work with business unit contacts to analyze physical servers to determine if they are good candidates for virtualization or decommission. You will identify physical servers that are potential candidates to be virtualized or decommissioned and you will complete P2V migrations in both the Windows and Linux environments, from planning stages through the physical decommission of the server.
Your remit will include the installation, configuration, troubleshooting and management of VMware VI3 and vSphere 4, and the configuration and management of VMware VirtualCenter, VMware HA, DRS and Update Manager. This role will sometimes involve leading some projects (at team lead or project lead level).

Knowledge and Skills Required:
The successful candidate for this role will hold a 3rd level qualification in a computer science or related discipline, and possess circa 3 – 6 yrs professional IT work experience, This experience should have been gained in an enterprise scale environment, ideally a data centre. The successful candidate will have proven analytical and trouble shooting skills along with the ability to set scope and deliver quality results.
Specifically, you should have prior experience of P2V migrations, including installation and troubleshooting, of Windows 2000, 2003, 2008 and Linux Red Hat / SuSe Linux servers in a large environment. You should have experience with virtualization of high performance windows systems such as Microsoft Exchange and SQL. Experience with related tools such as VMware Converter & PlateSpin PowerConvert, PlateSpin PowerRecon and VMware Capacity Planner would be highly desirable. Experience with capacity planning of physical workloads to be virtualized using PlateSpin PowerRecon and/or VMware Capacity Planner would also be desirable.
Any experience of the following skills would also be desirable, but is not essential:
VBScripting, WMI, security concepts such as NTFS permissions or security auditing etc.
