Technical Customer Support Engineer (Unix) – Permanent – Competitive Salary
Our client is a large multinational company working in the telecommunications industry and wireless networks. Creating the ultimate in Wireless data services accessed everyday by over one billion customers.
Our client currently has a position available for both a Customer Service Engineer and a Senior Customer Service Engineer to be based from their Belfast office.
Main Responsibilities:
* Serve as the primary support contact and technical support liaison to assigned customer.Â
* Provide a high level of technical competence to independently resolve complex trouble reports
* Maintain information on assigned customer, including contact points, deployment data, remote access method(s) and other information as requested by management
* As necessary, escalate issues in accordance with relevant client Customer Support procedures
* Travel to customer data centers as required, to fulfill tasks such as issue resolution, upgrades and performing assessments and site/system audits
* When a software bug is discovered, log issues in the bug tracking system, reproducing the bug and providing all reasonable data to the Engineering Group
* Create knowledge base documentation for all resolved issues when an existing document does not exist or the issue is not covered by product documentation;.
* Work toward becoming a subject matter expert in one or more relevant client products or solutions and in one or more relevant non-client technologies
* Willingness to work in pager on-call rotation
 Essential Criteria:
* At least two years (4 years for Senior) experience in a role which required troubleshooting of applications running on UNIX or Linux
* Working knowledge of TCP/IP and internet protocols
* Familiarity with network sniffer tools such as wireshark/ethereal, snoop or tcpdump
* Two years experience in a customer facing role
 Desired Criteria
* A scientific degree.
* Provided support to a Tier1 or Tier2 Mobile/Telecoms Operator
* Mobile networking experience with skills in CDMA, 1xRTT, GSM, GPRS, PDSN, SGSN, GGSN and tunneling protocols
* In depth knowledge of TCP/IP and application protocols including HTTP, RADIUS etc.
* Low level problem analysis and troubleshooting in a UNIX environment, ideally Solaris 10.
* Scripting experience – Perl, shell etc
* Familiarity with debugging tools such as dtrace.
* Experience of network equipment such as Routers, Switches and Load Balancers.
* Knowledge of C/C
