itContracting are currently seeking applications on behalf of our client, a global insurance provider and FinTech company, for several Cloud Platform Engineers. These are permanent positions based with our client in South Dublin.
 

The Cloud Platform Engineers will join our client’s newly established Cloud Centre of Excellence, which is a cross-functional team responsible for developing and managing the overall cloud roadmap, strategy, governance and best practices that the rest of the organization can leverage to transform the business using the cloud.

In this role, the successful candidates will join a team of highly skilled engineers responsible for the end-to-end ownership and delivery of public cloud services. The Cloud Platform Engineers will be responsible for enabling and maximizing our client’s ability to exploit cloud for business benefits, while ensuring customer satisfaction, cost effectiveness, operational integrity and adherence to relevant industry best practices. You will be provided with guidance and training to facilitate your development within this role.

Our client is looking for several Cloud Engineers with backgrounds in both software development/ coding and infrastructure to fulfil a number of new positions within the existing team.
 

Cloud Platform Engineers – Software Development/ Coding Responsibilities:

- Responsible for code that provisions, configures, automates, monitors, and supports enterprise Cloud services that can be consumed by other development/platform teams

- Enable enterprise datacentre modernisation/migration initiatives by developing platform and infrastructure as code which supports global business applications and operations, including the areas of:

- Compute
- Storage
- Networking
- Databases & Data

- Assist in the development of processes and practices to support migration of workloads to public cloud
- Through automation, enforce continuous compliance to industry operation and security standards
- Develop code to support the safe orchestration and release of infrastructure, applications, and workloads to cloud environments
- Work with the Cloud Architect to support architectural design and new cloud service implementations utilising industry best practices
- Provide out of hours on-call support for production and development environments as an escalation point
- Follow best practice around code management, such as source control, pull requests, artefacts and deployment packages
- Work to Agile principles of Epics, Stories, Sprints to deliver code at the right time as guided by the Product Owner and Software Engineering Manager
- Use best practice for modern software delivery technique, such as Test Driven Development, Domain Driven Design, Unit Testing, Pair Programming, QA Automation and testing
- Participate in development of security logging, monitoring, and alert triage
- Participate in security incident response and investigation as needed

 
Cloud Platform Engineers - Infrastructure Responsibilities:

- Provide support and expertise to troubleshoot issues on the cloud platform or hosted workloads, escalating to other specialised teams as required
- Contribute to incident root cause analysis, with enough knowledgeable to lead discussions and drive tangible improvements
- Work with peers inside and outside the team to promote and expand automation of operational tasks through consultancy and hands-on expertise, identifying the best fit and highlighting benefits
- Provide out of hours on-call support for production and development environments

- Be the subject matter expert on infrastructure elements in the cloud. For example:

- Compute
- Storage
- Networking
- Database
- Supporting Services i.e. DNS, DHCP, PKI etc.

- Design, build and implement tools to aid observability, identification and resolution of incidents that occur on the cloud platform
- Provide backup and recovery support and guidance for cloud resources. This includes executing disaster recovery procedures to support disaster recovery testing
- Be a point of contact for key ITIL processes that impact the cloud platform and hosted workloads, providing and advice and guidance on how to implement the various requirements in a cloud-first way
- Participate in security incident response and investigation as needed

 
Requirements:

- 5-7+ years’ experience in cloud engineering; either software development/ coding or infrastructure background
- Experience of managing public/private cloud technologies in a large-scale enterprise environment.
- Relevant degree or diploma programme of study
- Experience writing code in at least one of the following languages: Java, .NET, Node.js, PHP, Python, Ruby
- Experience of working with the latest automation tools in a DevOps and Agile environment
- Familiarity with version control platforms e.g. Git, Perforce, SVN, TFVC
- Troubleshooting experience in virtual/ cloud infrastructures
- Proven experience of working within supplier-led service delivery models
- Proven ability to succeed in collaborative work environments using Agile/ Scrum methodologies

 
Preferred Qualifications:

- Expert level knowledge of Azure or AWS with associated certifications
- Proficient in the automation of repeatable tasks using appropriate scripting
- Experience in automated testing supporting operational readiness checks
- Proficient in the use of configuration management tools e.g. Cloud formation, Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell
