The programme manager is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of programmes, defining, implementing and managing strategies. Independently owns delivery of programmes managing multi-disciplinary teams. Works closely with clients to develop an understanding of their business strategy, ensuring that the programme infrastructure is managed to provide agreed levels of service. The role has an oversight of the purpose and status of the projects in a programme and can use this oversight to support project-level activity to ensure the programme goals are met by providing a decision-making capacity.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the project management services within complex, significant and high risk programmes as defined and sold to high profile and strategic clients. Monitors and controls resources, revenue and capital costs against the project budget and manages expectations of all project stakeholders. Actively hires, develops and retains the best talent within their specialism.
 
• Delivers extensible, on-time solutions and contributes to the development of high-performance teams through continuous process improvement and mentorship.
 
• Builds long-term, strategic relationships with senior stakeholders and maintains strong understanding of the clients’ industry and business. Optimises service to the client in a high quality, cost-effective manner for multiple locations.
 
• Sets the direction and leads in the introduction and use of techniques, methodologies and tools, to match overall business requirements (both current and future). Specialist in strategic consultancy, covering new and/or specialised offerings, assisting clients in the formation of IT and project strategies, and acting to ensure that they are offered services aligned to these strategies.
 
• Actively monitors emerging technologies and market trends, identifies process improvements, and contributes to project management standards and definition of best practice at the programme level.
 
• Facilitates scoping and business priority setting for large or complex programme changes, obtaining formal agreement from a large and diverse range of potentially senior stakeholders and recipients to the scope and requirements, plus able to establish a base-line on which delivery of a solution can commence.
 
• Partnering and aligning with the core team members including sales, operations, information technology and technical leads to facilitate the identified solution.
 
• Provides input for overall delivery models at programme level and assists sales with pre-sales activity. Reviews new business proposals and provides advice on compliance issues.
 
• Maintains awareness and ensures correct commercial cover for responsible accounts at programme level.

 

Qualifications

Essential
 
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field, or equivalent work experience
• One or more industry certifications e.g. Prince 2, PMP etc.
 
Desirable
 
• Management qualification or relevant years of experience

Technical
 
• Has advanced level of general overall programme management expertise with a strong background in managing programmes whilst providing leadership to teams.
• Evidence of in-depth application/technology and domain knowledge and viewed as an expert in multiple areas.
• Strong knowledge of emerging technologies and market trends and able to assess impact on business strategies, benefits and risks.
• Experience in influencing senior level clients and multiple project teams through change management initiatives, ensuring that the infrastructure is managed to provide agreed levels of service.
• Solid experience and track record of successful programme delivery utilising multiple project management methodologies, frameworks, tools and techniques.
• Experience in anticipating problem areas and using formal methodologies to forecast trends and define innovative strategic choices in response to the potential implications of multiple integrated options.
• Experience in working closely with clients to develop an understanding of their business strategy and architecting solutions based on that.
• Extensive experience with all stages of the product development lifecycle (concept to launch).
• Proven record in independent ownership and oversight of delivery within programmes. Able to determine and define standards and quality targets for key strategic clients, influencing key business stakeholders.
• Experience in building long-term, strategic relationships with senior stakeholders within large clients and maintaining a strong understanding of the clients’ industry and business.
 
Management
 
• Excellent people management skills. Acts as a role model for continuous learning and development, and challenges others to reflect and learn.
• Experience of managing people and creating an environment that celebrates both successes and failures.
• A proven record in setting and working to visionary but attainable goals, taking courageous decisions and implementing them successfully.
