System Administrator Unix

 

 

The client is a Cork based company working in the financial services sector. As a Unix Systems Administrator you would help lead the Unix Projects team responsible for review, approval and implementation of solution designs published by Architecture and Engineering teams. You will be an innovative self-starter who is able to comfortably interact and take a leadership role with diverse infrastructure and software development teams while implementing complex technical solutions.

 

 

The main duties and responsibilities are:

 

Deploy and configure new infrastructure based on the published engineering designs

Enforce conformity to the established technology standards and methodologies

Closely track and manage project deliverables by collaborating with the Project Management team. Assist PMs with defining project plans and milestones, identifying risks and issues, and delivering services by defined due dates

Work together with various development teams on establishing automated software deployment pipelines for internal and third-party applications

Automate repetitive tasks and manual runbooks by writing Shell, Python, and YAML scripts

Build software packages and write configuration management, installation and deployment scripts

Schedule, plan and oversee application releases, go-live and migration activities

Perform essential UNIX administration tasks – server builds, patching, user administration, cluster management, software installations, performance tuning and troubleshooting

Assist colleagues (Oracle DBAs, Middleware and UNIX administrators) with team assignments

Publish documentation and operational guidelines for support staff

Identify and quickly address customer issues

Accept responsibility and personal accountability

 

We would very much like to meet you if you have 3 - 5 years of relevant IT experience

 

Strong automation background with UNIX shell scripting languages such as Bash, Python, YAML, Ruby.

Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible preferred)

Experience supporting Linux operating environments. Solaris is a plus

Comfort level understanding of continuous integration, deployment and operations concepts

Must know how to use version control systems such as GIT and SVN

Understanding of database concepts. Middleware experience is a plus

Candidate must possess good troubleshooting skills and should be able to identify and quickly resolve issues

Must know how to build Linux RPMs and Solaris packages

Experience with Nagios, Graphite, Spacewalk, Foreman and other open source system management and monitoring tools

Must be willing to work outside of normal business hours and provide weekend coverage as needed

Must be able to independently research and learn newly introduced technologies, work with external vendors and
