Network Infrastructure Specialist - LAN / WAN
Our Dublin based client is a leading global energy company who seriously invest and value their IT Infrastructure. This is a great IT Job opportunity for an experienced Network Engineer with strong LAN / WAN experience.
Job Purpose:
On-Going administration of companies LAN/WAN infrastructures
Contribute to the design and creation of support models for infrastructure services.
Help company deliver standardized scalable infrastructure systems across all sites.
Work with existing support teams to ensure incident management and change control processes are followed and communicated effectively.
Review global and localized change requests and assess potential impacts in accordance with change control policies for the LAN/WAN estate.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and provide weekly reporting to Team leader.
To understand local business processes and to seek ways of making process improvements and developing process automation.
Understand companies network requirements at a detailed level in order to translate them into technical specifications.
Help define network implementation standards to ensure consistency between projects.
Define Firewall rules for solution implementations
Provide general Network tasks to support deployments of systems to customers, some travel may be required.
Contribute to user workshops to validate customer requirements, confirm and negotiate technical specifications upon activation of a project, verifying adherence to requirements in delivered solutions.
Develop creative and innovative architectural designs for a complex module with minimal supervision.
Coordinate with project managers, peers and external contractors to understand and solve challenging technical problems.
Work with project managers and peers to produce effort estimates;
Assess requirements and make design recommendations.
Develop architecture designs which are well-thought out, reasonable and practical.
Responsibility for technical set-up of the network, liaising with development teams to determine effort, feasibility, scheduling, etc.
Responsible for the creation of technical documentation that supports the products as defined in the requirements. Write `as built' network implementation documentation.
Leverage company Methodologies to produce results in a timely and predictable manner.
Assess difficult requirements, processes them and forms innovative models to arrive at solutions to address these requirements.
Education:
IT related Bachelors degree or relevant hands on experience.
ITIL foundation certificate preferential.
Cisco CCNA/CCNP or experience to demonstrate proficiency at this level.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of standard network engineering principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
Knowledge and experience of network security including Cisco, and Checkpoint Firewalls
Experience of Load Balancer configuration
Experience on Riverbed technology
Experience of Switch configuration
Experience of cabling
Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking
IP address management
DNS
iSCSI networking
Monitoring
Working knowledge of resource estimation, internal administration and operational processes.
Understands the customer's business objectives for assigned projects
Knowledgeable on how components are connected and interact.
Reasonable awareness and understanding of industry drivers.
Demonstrates analytical flexibility and versatility.
Demonstrates core engineering competencies.
Candidates must be capable or working with minimal guidance or supervision but must also be capable or working in a team environment.
