We require a contractor who can provide emergency, maintenance level cover for our software systems to address our business continuity requirements and provide holiday cover where necessary.
The company has a significant reliance on a number of key personnel, replacing these people is anticipated to take a period of two to three months and we require a candidate who can provide maintenance cover if needed on a part time basis during the recruiting process.
During the contract, the candidate will be required to log on remotely, once a month and perform a series of tasks to demonstrate that they are current with the software systems and recovery procedures for a variety of disaster recovery scenarios.
Actual cover will only be needed in the event that key personnel are being replaced.
Service Requirements
The SmartBin software services consist of a number of applications written in JAVA that interact with a mySQL database. The candidate will be required to demonstrate a capability to perform recovery procedures to ensure that our production systems remain functional during the transition period.
Tasks will include execution of the following documented procedures:
1: Restoring software services after a catastrophic infrastructure failure (hard fail)
2: Restarting services in the event of a operating system software update (soft fail)
3: Identifying if one or more services have failed to recover from a transient infrastructure failure (soft fail)
4: Perform ad-hoc reporting using pre-defined stored procedures, views & queries to support our operations and customer care teams.
5: Validate that automated DBA tasks are performing correctly
Implementation
Validation that production systems are operational and procedures to ensure recovery from various disaster recovery scenarios are largely automated.
However, certain scenarios may require more active investigation, monitoring and validation by a person familiar with the various systems and technologies.
To this end the candidate will be required to maintain a level of familiarisation with these procedures and be able to demonstrate their understanding on a monthly basis using a sandbox environment that is set-up for this purpose.
The candidate will be required to attend on site during the initial orientation and briefing, they will then use a secured remote desktop connection to perform the monthly review.
The candidate must commit to providing a more active level of engagement with the team in the event that emergency cover is required.
