Junior Java Developer / App Support

Our Client has an excellent opportunity for a Junior Java Developer or Application Support person to progress their career. The successful candidate will be responsible for the resolution of deep support issues and code defects.

This role exists in a thriving international software company headquartered in Ireland. You will be expected to have strong technical support experience to take responsibility of delivery of maintenance releases to live customers of within a rapidly expanding blue chip customer base.

Candidates can expect approximately 30% hands on development and 70% support and maintenance work.

Responsibilities
•Develop familiarity with the existing application and code base quickly and efficiently
•Design, specify and develop quality, maintainable software
•Develop, debug and unit test software for assigned defects in the application suite in accordance with internal procedures and standards
•Solve technical problems efficiently as they arise and demonstrate complete follow-through and closure on problems
•Recognise opportunities for re-using code and components
•Assist in the general improvement of practices, design principles and process within the team and the initiative on implementation of same
•Provide regular feedback to ensure awareness of the project progress or issues that could affect quality, content or timing of the delivery
•Be prepared to assume roles on client delivery projects, technical support activities as well as the core development activities as the need / opportunity arises.
•Travel to client sites to carry out on-site installation or issue resolution is an important aspect of this role, but is expected to be a small part of the role.
•Successfully deliver maintenance patches as part of a maintenance cycle to multiple customers every month.

Requirements:
•An IT graduate with a minimum of 2 years application support / development experience
•A proven track record of technical design and development ability of n-tier applications as part of a team and as an individual contributor.
•Experience of the full development lifecycle from initial specification through development testing and delivery
•Ability to take the initiative and to work without much supervision on a day to day basis
