Whats Hot in IT Contracting

To say that the IT contracting market is buoyant at the moment would be little more than an understatement! Simply put, there has been no slow down in the IT contracting market throughout 2006 and it doesn’t look like letting up coming into 2007.

So what’s Hot in this fast moving and dynamic market at the moment?

Current “Hot” Skills in demand include Project Managers and Business Analysts, both functional and technical. There is a heavy emphasis on process driven candidates who have had exposure to ITIL, SOX, Basel II and candidates with general compliance and regulation experience.

Candidates with specific industry experience such as Insurance, Banking etc. are in high demand.

On the more technical front, there are high demands for commercially experience candidates in RDBMS such as Oracle, Sybase, SQL, Access etc including DBA’s, support or developers. Developers with Java and .NET technologies are constantly in demand across a broad range of industries.

There has also been major growth in the Financial, Mainframe and Localisation test arena and candidates with these skills are in high demand.

A number of factors have contributed to firms using IT contractors to meet their project needs. The general low levels of unemployment, longer term durations of contracts, increased security and financial gain offered by IT contracts, have contributed to larger number of candidates choosing to go contracting.

2007 shows no sign of a slow down in the contracting market making this an even more attractive option for skilled IT professionals.
