Application Support Analyst -0-12 months exp

Job Purpose

The purpose of the role is to support, maintain, enhance and implement Java centric solutions for a variety of complex financial in-house Business Systems as well as performing functional maintenance and service developments.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for ensuring applications are stable and that daily processes are correct and business applications are functional. Best practice JAVA coding skills are essential. Dealing with reported (Users Call's / Incidents / Problems) and change requests within internally agreed timeframes.

• Specify changes or improvements to resolve recurring problems within software applications. Implement accurate data amendments or cleanups and appropriate bug fixes of application errors, maintain & update a “Business As Usual” log of these errors or system defects.

• Analyse business requirements and implement best technical solutions for all developments, implement developments or enhancements on software applications with the clear goal of solving business issues and enhancing functional performance to satisfy internal customers.

• Develop application test plans, documentation and undertake testing, to continuously improve the stability of all applications.

• Always select the best solution for the internal customer maintaining a balance between agreed deadlines and quality of solution implementation.

• Propose precise solutions for recurring incidents (problem management). This process will involve dealing directly with internal customers and take ownership of queries and following all issues through to resolution.


IT Skill Set Required
• Educated to Degree level in IT discipline
• Solid application experience of Design Patterns and UML
• JSE technologies: Swing-based UI development
• JEE technologies: Web Services, JSP/Servlets
• XML
• Knowledge of RDBMS and SQL
• Knowledge of straight line and object orientated development approaches

Experience in the following is an advantage but not essential:
• IBM Apache WebServer / WAS plugin
• Eclipse
• DB2 skills on Windows and/or iSeries
• Remain OMS - Tight as a drum (or similar automated deployment tool)
• Performance tuning
• Ear file deployment
• Shell scripting
• ANT
• Troubleshooting skills
• Application deployment experience
• Incident/Problem Ticket management
• Change control
• Financial Services experience
